Ingredients

For the Brisket
  • 4 to 5 pounds beef brisket Choose a brisket with a good amount of fat for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons salt Adjust to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper Freshly ground is preferable.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper Optional for heat.
For the Sauce
  • 2 cups barbecue sauce Homemade or store-bought.
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. Trim any excess fat from the brisket, leaving a thin layer for flavor.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Rub this mixture all over the brisket.
Cooking
  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the brisket on all sides until browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  2. In a large baking dish or roasting pan, combine barbecue sauce, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, and apple cider vinegar. Mix well.
  3. Place the seared brisket into the sauce mixture, ensuring it is well-coated.
  4. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and place it in the preheated oven.
  5. Allow the brisket to cook for 4 to 5 hours, or until it is fork-tender.
  6. Once cooked, remove the brisket from the oven and let it rest for 30 minutes before slicing.
  7. Slice the brisket against the grain and serve with the remaining barbecue sauce.

Notes

To enhance flavor, consider basting the brisket with additional barbecue sauce during the last hour of cooking.
