Ingredients

Spice Rub
  • 2 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp kosher salt
  • 2 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional for heat)
  • 1 tsp mustard powder
Main Ingredients
  • 4 lb beef brisket (flat or whole packer cut)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • ½ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

Method

Preparation
  1. Mix the smoked paprika, brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and mustard powder in a bowl. Rub this spice mix all over the brisket, coating it well.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). In a heavy baking dish or roasting pan, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat and sear the brisket on both sides until nicely browned (about 4-5 minutes per side).
  2. Remove the brisket from the pan and combine beef broth, apple cider vinegar, BBQ sauce, honey, and Worcestershire sauce in the same pan. Stir well.
  3. Return the seared brisket to the pan, cover tightly with foil, and bake for about 4-5 hours or until the brisket is tender.
Resting and Serving
  1. Let the brisket rest for at least 20 minutes before slicing to allow juices to redistribute. Slice against the grain for tender pieces and serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side.

Notes

For added flavor, let the brisket marinate with the rub overnight. Use a meat thermometer for perfect tenderness. To achieve a crispy exterior, broil the brisket for a few minutes after baking.
