Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 lb of ground beef, breaking it apart with a spoon, and cook until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
- Add 1 medium chopped onion and 2 minced garlic cloves to the skillet. Cook for 3-4 minutes until onion is soft.
- Spread the cooked beef mixture in the baking dish. Layer 4-5 thinly sliced potatoes on top, seasoning with salt, pepper, 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning, and 1/2 teaspoon paprika.
- Sprinkle 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese and 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese on top. Pour 1/2 cup beef broth around the edges and optionally drizzle with 1/4 cup milk.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until potatoes are tender and cheese is melted.
Serving
- Garnish with fresh parsley if desired and serve hot.
Notes
Customize vegetables, use different cheeses, or adjust seasonings according to your taste. For a lighter version, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken, and use sweet potatoes for a unique twist.
