  • 1 lb pork breakfast sausage Can substitute with turkey or chicken sausage.
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped
  • 30 oz frozen shredded hash browns, thawed and squeezed dry Ensure excess moisture is removed for a crisp crust.
  • 1 1/2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded Divided into two portions for layering.
  • 10 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 2 green onions sliced, for garnish For a fresh touch before serving.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet, cook the pork sausage and chopped onion until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish and press the dried hash browns into the bottom to create a crust.
  4. Spread the cooked sausage mixture evenly over the hash browns and sprinkle 1 cup of cheddar cheese on top.
  5. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Pour this mixture over the layers.
  6. Top with the remaining 1/2 cup of cheese.
Baking
  1. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 40-50 minutes. Look for set eggs and a golden brown top.
  2. Let the casserole cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze portions for longer storage. This dish can be prepared ahead of time for convenience.
