Ingredients
  

For the sandwiches
  • 4 slices slices of bread Use white, whole grain, or brioche bread
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jam You can use different flavors such as raspberry or blueberry
For the egg mixture and coating
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs Substitutes: crushed cereal or ground crackers
  • as needed Butter for frying Ensure butter is hot for crispy texture
  • to taste Powdered sugar for dusting (optional) Dust before serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Spread cream cheese on two slices of bread.
  2. Top the cream cheese with strawberry jam.
  3. Place the other slices of bread on top to form sandwiches.
Coating
  1. In a bowl, whisk together the egg and milk.
  2. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, making sure they are well-coated.
  3. Coat the sandwiches in flour, followed by breadcrumbs.
Cooking
  1. Heat a generous amount of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Once the butter is bubbling and hot, carefully fry each sandwich until golden brown on both sides.
Serving
  1. Once cooked, take the sandwiches out and let them drain on paper towels.
  2. Dust with powdered sugar if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

For added fruitiness, consider adding slices of fresh strawberries or bananas inside the sandwiches. To make gluten-free, use gluten-free bread and breadcrumbs.
