  • 1 loaf loaf of bread, torn into pieces
  • 8 large large eggs
  • 2 cups milk Use whole milk or half and half for creamier texture.
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
Meat Option
  • 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage or bacon, crumbled
Seasonings
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
Garnish

Preparation
  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the torn bread in the dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard powder (if using).
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  4. Sprinkle the crumbled sausage or bacon and shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the casserole is set and golden on top.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chives or parsley.
