Ingredients
  

Casserole Base
  • 1 loaf 1 loaf of bread, torn into pieces Use stale bread for better texture.
  • 8 large eggs 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice) Try different cheeses like mozzarella or feta.
  • 1 cup 1 cup cooked breakfast sausage or bacon, crumbled Can substitute with ham or veggie options.
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon mustard powder (optional)
  • to taste Chopped chives or parsley for garnish

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish. Place the torn bread in the dish.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, and mustard powder.
  3. Pour the egg mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  4. Sprinkle the crumbled sausage or bacon and shredded cheese evenly over the top.
  5. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.
Cooking
  1. The next morning, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the plastic wrap and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the casserole is set and golden on top.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chives or parsley.

Notes

This casserole pairs nicely with fresh fruit or a light salad. Can be reheated in the oven or microwave. Best consumed within 3-4 days when stored in an airtight container.
