Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1.5 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 0.5 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water This step is crucial for activating the cocoa powder.
  • 1 portion Secret ingredient (such as sour cream or coffee for richness) Optional, but enhances the flavor.

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Mixing
  1. Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients, mixing until well combined.
  2. Carefully stir in the boiling water; the batter will be thin, but that’s what makes it yummy!
Baking
  1. Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  2. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  3. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Serving
  1. Frost with your favorite chocolate frosting and enjoy!

Notes

Store the cake in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days. For longer storage, you can refrigerate for about a week or freeze for up to three months.
