  • 10 each croissants, pulled in half
Garnish
  • to taste fresh chives, chopped

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole eggs, egg whites, 2% milk, dijon mustard, and garlic powder until well blended.
  2. Stir in half of the shredded gruyere and sharp cheddar cheese along with the chopped bacon.
  3. Lightly spray a casserole dish with cooking oil.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Place the halved croissants in the bottom of the casserole dish, arranging some ends upright for a beautiful presentation.
  6. Pour the egg mixture over the croissants, spreading it evenly.
  7. Top with the remaining cheese.
Baking
  1. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  2. Check that the eggs are fully cooked. If not, bake for a little longer.
Serving
  1. Once done, garnish with chopped chives and enjoy! Serve warm, sliced like a cake.

Notes

Use day-old croissants for the best results; they soak up the egg mixture nicely without getting too soggy. Feel free to mix in your favorite vegetables, such as spinach or bell peppers, to add some extra nutrients and flavor. Let the strata sit for a few minutes after baking before slicing to help it hold its shape better.
