Preparation
- In one shallow dish, mix the flour, smoked paprika, and half of the salt.
- In a separate dish, lightly beat the egg and water.
- In another dish, combine panko breadcrumbs with the remaining salt.
Coating the Onion Rings
- Take each onion ring and coat it with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the onion ring into the egg mixture, letting any extra egg drip off.
- Finally, cover the onion ring with the panko mixture, pressing it in so it sticks well.
Air Frying
- Spray the coated onion rings with cooking spray.
- Arrange them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
- Cook at 375°F for about 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Serving
- Once cooked, keep your onion rings warm while you finish cooking the rest.
Notes
Store leftover onion rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer to enjoy crispy again. For variations, try whole wheat breadcrumbs or add cheese to the panko.
