Ingredients
  

For the Coatings
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Used for coating the onion rings
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt Divided into two portions
  • 1 large egg Beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water To mix with the egg
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs Used for the final coating
For the Onion Rings
  • 2 large sweet onions Sliced into rings

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In one shallow dish, mix the flour, smoked paprika, and half of the salt.
  2. In a separate dish, lightly beat the egg and water.
  3. In another dish, combine panko breadcrumbs with the remaining salt.
Coating the Onion Rings
  1. Take each onion ring and coat it with the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
  2. Dip the onion ring into the egg mixture, letting any extra egg drip off.
  3. Finally, cover the onion ring with the panko mixture, pressing it in so it sticks well.
Air Frying
  1. Spray the coated onion rings with cooking spray.
  2. Arrange them in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  3. Cook at 375°F for about 10 minutes, flipping them halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Serving
  1. Once cooked, keep your onion rings warm while you finish cooking the rest.

Notes

Store leftover onion rings in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the air fryer to enjoy crispy again. For variations, try whole wheat breadcrumbs or add cheese to the panko.
